Hunting & Overlanding
From wilderness adventures to business ventures, it’s naturally better here.
If you’re looking for public hunting land or forest roads to go overlanding, it’s naturally better here in Aitkin County. With the most public land of all Minnesota counties, Aitkin County consists of 225,000 acres of county public land and 330,000 of State of Minnesota public land. The county also contains approximately 400 lakes, including the second largest inland lake in Minnesota, Lake Mille Lacs.
Three distinct biomes—grassland, boreal forests, and freshwater lakes and rivers—provide beautiful scenery and natural habitat for large game (e.g., whitetail deer, black bear) and small (e.g., rabbit, squirrel, turkey), fish (e.g., walleye, northern, muskie, crappie, sunfish, bass), and vegetation. With all this, it’s easy to see why Aitkin County is a desirable destination for public hunting land, gathering, hiking, overlanding, fishing, and water sports.
